| GitS:SAC is based on manga created by Masamune Shirow (Appleseed, Dominion Tank Police). The television series, manga, and movies (Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell: Innocence) all feature Public Safety Section 9, but from there the stories diverge greatly. | ||
| The television series takes place along a different storyline than its movie and manga predecessors. It takes place in the year 2030 and follows the workings of Public Safety Section 9, an elite counter-terrorist unit. With cyborged body parts and brains that can move effortlessly through a cyber network, terrorists and criminals have even more ways in which to perpetrate their crimes. But these same cyborged body parts and cyber network can serve law enforcement as well. Lead by Major Motoko Kusanagi, Section 9 pursues these terrorists and criminals. With more ways to commit crimes, there are also more reasons for committing them in the first place. As Section 9 uncovers these reasons, they discover corruption, plots within plans, and perilous hopes for the future. | ||
| With its complicated storylines, often involving politics and bureaucratic intrigue, GitS:SAC would seem to fall into the category of intelligent, analytical animes that rely heavily on dialogue. However, GitS:SAC certainly isn't lacking in action. Combined with its graphics and music, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is a masterpiece of storytelling and suspense, a favourite of many who are seeking the intelligent action genre. | ||
